The International Transmembrane Transporter Society (ITTS) evolved from enthusiastic discussions at the 2013 “The Brain in Flux: Genetic, Physiologic and Therapeutic Perspectives on Transporters in the Nervous System” satellite meeting to the International Society of Neurochemistry, held in Cancun, Mexico, April 25-29.  This meeting provided a catalyst for the formation of an international society for individuals with a focused interest on transporters with the goal to bring these researchers together at regular, organized, scientific meetings and social networking events.

The ITTS was co-founded by Drs. Haley Melikian, Lynette Daws, Harald Sitte and Habibeh Khoshbouei, the inaugural President, Vice President (America), Vice President (Europe) and Secretary/Treasurer, respectively.  The constitution was written and approved by the co-founders.  Upon the formal opening of the society in September 2014, and subsequent formation of an international council, the constitution will be revisited for suggested amendments at the first official business meeting of the ITTS.

ITTS is a registered non-profit organization
